Serves as crew leader and performs skilled manual labor in various duties such as cleaning ditches and placing sideline and cross line pipe, installing or repairing driveways, slope repairs, bridge repairs, sidewalk and curb repairs, catch basin repairs, vegetation management, or variety of other activities related to work requests options. Operates medium and heavy equipment such as motor grader, backhoe, front-end loader, and belt loader in maintaining earth shoulders, roadside ditches, and outfall ditches to provide proper drainage for roadway surfaces. Assists in devising a schedule for work to be performed by a maintenance crew. Quantifies daily records of work performed and materials used, records such as HMMS and the maintenance requests and complaints forms. Assists with instructing crew members daily in safety practices such as flagging operations, wearing of safety equipment, vehicle safety, or job site hazards. Coordinates placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide. Conducts safety inspections on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Monitors the preventative maintenance program of equipment to ensure a routine maintenance is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Maintains a record of items needed by each crew and supplies the items in a timely manner in order for the crews to perform their duties in a safe, efficient, and timely manner. Operates both portable-mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snow plow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges, during inclement weather operations. Works over time/12 hour shifts and on-call when required. May work during emergency operations when required. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Two (2) years of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operators license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.

The physical demands for the essential functions involves bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal scheduled work week; especially during inclement weather. A RESUME MAY BE INCLUDED BUT NOT SUBSTITUTED FOR COMPLETING THE ENTIRE APPLICATION.
